James A. Holcomb
James
A. Holcomb was born in Saginaw, Michigan, graduated
from Saginaw Arthur Hill High School and went to
Flint Community College for two years before
entering the Army during the Korean outbreak. He
spent two years in the Army Chemical Corp.
Mr.
Holcomb graduated from the University of Michigan in
1958 with a Bachelors Degree
in Education
and in 1961
with a JD Degree from the University of Michigan Law
School. He was admitted to practice in Indiana and
has practiced in business law, banking law, health
care law, personal injury law, liability law, and
municipal law. He is admitted to practice in
Indiana, the Seventh Circuit Court, and the U.S.
Supreme Court.
He was an active member of the Indiana State
Bar Association serving as Secretary, Vice Chairman
and Chairman or the Young Lawyers Section. He
served for two terms on the Board of Managers of the
Indiana State Bar Association, and is a member of
the American Health Lawyers Association. He is a
life fellow of the Indiana Bar Foundation and the
American Bar Foundation, and has served as President
and a member of the Board of Directors of the
Indiana Bar Foundation.
Mr.
Holcomb served as Park Board attorney for the City
of Gary. He formed the Legal Aid Society of Gary in
1966, and served as its President from 1968-1970,
and Secretary / Treasurer / Vice President and
President of the Gary Bar Association. In 1972 he
served as corporation counsel of the City of Gary.
He was the attorney for the Gary Public
Transportation Corporation and formed that
corporation and was its attorney from 1974 through
1984.
He
served as a member of the Board of Directors of the
Indiana Lawyers Commission from 1977 through 1989,
and as one of the Commission projects he started the
Lake County Community Corrections Program in Lake
County, Indiana and served as its President from
1984 through 1988. He still serves on the Advisory
Board of that organization.
From
1990 through 2007 he was appointed by the Governors
and served as a member of the Indiana Natural
Resources Foundation and the Indiana Heritage Trust
established by the State Legislature.
Mr.
Holcomb is currently a member of the Board of
Directors of Cerebral Palsy of Northwest Indiana,
and was active in the Glen Park Optimist Club and Miller
Optimist Organization.
Mr. Holcomb is married to his wife, Dorothy,
who he met while serving in the Army. They've been
married over 50 years. He has four (4) children and
twelve (12) grandchildren.
